Heating cable

The Patura frost-protection heating cable prevents water pipes from freezing in cold conditions. The heating output is 16 W per metre. The cable is supplied ready to plug in and features an integrated thermostat. The thermostat switches on at 6°C and switches off at 11°C. Remaining cable length can be laid in bends at the end of the pipe (minimum bending radius 15 mm). The heating cable has a protection rating of IP X7, which protects against temporary immersion.

Heating cables can be used in livestock barns, sheds, garages, horse stables, etc.

The thermal cable is simply wrapped around the water pipe. The heat emitted by the cable prevents the water pipes from freezing. The thermostat sensor must be placed directly against the pipe and wrapped with insulation tape. The thermostat must always be installed at the coldest point of the water pipe. The heating cable must be laid directly underneath the pipe and secured at regular intervals with insulation tape. The water pipe must also be insulated with pipe insulation of at least 13 mm.

The heating cable must not be shortened.

Heating cable also suitable for plants

Heating cables are widely used for olive trees, palm trees and potted plants with an integrated thermostat. The heating cable provides optimal protection against cold (frost) and helps your plants safely survive the winter. The cable can be wrapped around the pot, the trunk or around the crown, protecting the so-called palm heart of a palm or olive tree. It can be secured with rope or tying wire. Additional protection alongside the heating cable is recommended to ensure the survival of your plant or tree. This can be done using fleece fabric, plant covers or coconut fibre material. It is recommended to keep at least 3 cm between each winding.

General installation instructions for heating cables

• The installation must be carried out in accordance with VDE0100 by a qualified electrician.
• The water pipes must be grounded. A residual current device (RCD, 30 mA) must be installed.
• Lay the heating cable tightly along the underside of the pipe. Secure every 30 cm with insulation tape.
• The heating cable must never come into contact with another heating cable.
• Insulate the water pipe, including the heating cable, with pipe insulation (min. 10 mm).
• The heating cable must be fully protected against mechanical damage, especially in areas accessible to animals.
• Avoid sharp bends in the heating cable (minimum bending radius 50 mm).
• For plastic water pipes, wrap the pipe with standard aluminium tape before installing the heating cable to improve heat conduction.
